The George Barris Culver City Car Show is an annual spring celebration of classic cars, hot rods, custom vehicles and automotive history held in Downtown Culver City. Streets around Culver Boulevard are closed to traffic and filled with hundreds of vehicles, along with live music, vendors, awards and appearances by figures from the custom-car world. The event is organized by the Exchange Club of Culver City and honors legendary car customizer George Barris, whose creations and adaptations included some of the best-known vehicles in television and film, among them the 1966 Batman Batmobile, the Munsters Koach and the Beverly Hillbillies jalopy.

The show began in 2004 as the George Barris “Cruisin’ Back to the ’50s” Culver City Car Show, reflecting Barris’s memories of Culver City as one of Southern California’s early hot-rodding centers. In the 1950s, young car enthusiasts gathered and cruised locally, and Culver City was home to influential automotive businesses and hangouts associated with Southern California custom-car culture. Barris returned each year as the event grew into one of the area’s largest street car shows. After his death in 2015, the Exchange Club continued the event in his memory, retaining his name and the connection between Culver City, Hollywood automobiles and the early hot-rod scene.
