Homecoming is an annual fall tradition organized primarily by the school’s Associated Student Body, Homecoming Week includes school-spirit activities and traditionally culminates in a varsity football game at Jerry Chabola Stadium and a student dance the following evening. Festivities have also included a Homecoming assembly, tailgate, parade or halftime procession, performances by the Centaur marching band, cheer and dance teams, and the presentation of the Homecoming court. The event is intended to bring together current students, staff, families and alumni and is one of the school’s largest annual student activities.

Homecoming has been celebrated at Culver City High School since at least the 1950s, with school records from 1958 documenting the selection of a Homecoming Queen. Over subsequent decades, the tradition developed around the school’s fall football season, with the Homecoming game becoming one of the best-attended events on the athletic calendar. By the 2010s, the annual celebration regularly included an assembly, football game and halftime festivities followed by a Saturday night dance in the Del Goodyear Gymnasium. The tradition has also reflected changes in the school community; in 2004, special-education student David Mason received widespread attention after students elected him Homecoming King, and in 2010 student Niko Walker was elected Homecoming King in an event later noted in national coverage of transgender and gender-nonconforming students participating in Homecoming traditions.
