The Culver City High School Robotics Team, officially FIRST Robotics Competition Team 702 and known as the Bagel Bytes, is the competitive robotics program of Culver City High School. The team participates in the international FIRST Robotics Competition, in which students design, build and program a large-scale robot to complete a new set of challenges each season. Bagel Bytes is organized into student-led groups specializing in areas such as computer-aided design, manufacturing, programming, business and safety, with adult mentors serving primarily in advisory roles. The team has included dozens of students each year and has also participated in community demonstrations, STEM outreach and mentoring programs for younger students.

The Bagel Bytes program dates to around the turn of the 21st century and took its nickname from early sponsor Noah’s Bagels. Over the following decades, Team 702 became one of Culver City High School’s most prominent STEM programs, earning numerous awards and competition victories in FIRST events. In 2023, the team won the Los Angeles Regional, qualifying for the FIRST Championship in Houston, where it competed against teams from around the world. The program has also collaborated with organizations including NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Aquarium of the Pacific and helped develop a robotic “Throw-Bot” used to throw ceremonial first pitches at Dodger Stadium. In 2026, Team 702 marked its 25th competitive season and finished tied for fifth at a California district event, serving as an alliance captain for the first time since 2012.
